Hydroseed Lawn Tips

Use these tips to help care for your newly sprayed lawn. Of course, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call your estimator.

Watering Your Lawn:

Keep the lawn moist at all times, water your lawn for 20-30 minutes or until run-off is detected. Do not allow water to puddle up. This watering process should be repeated twice a day (early morning and evening ) every day for the first 2-3 weeks, and every other day after that until the first cutting. As the grass begins to germinate, water once a day.Do not let the lawn dry out! If the germinating seeds become dry, they will die and void any guarantee.

Fertilizing Your Lawn:

A commercial fertilizer was applied with your lawn seed and hydro mulch fibers. This initial application of fertilizer will provide the nutrients to give the young grass seedlings a healthy start. An additional application of fertilizer should be considered after 30, 60, and 90 days of growth. Use a commercial fertilizer available at garden stores applied in the fall and spring (preferably when the soil is moist, to prevent foliage burn). Read the bag for instructions.

Mowing Your Lawn:

A new lawn should be mowed as soon as the grass blades are 3″ to 5″ high. Delaying the first cutting may allow long grass blades to bend over, causing a shabby appearance. Do not remove more than 1/3 of the leaf surface at one time. Subsequent mowing should be done often (usually weekly), and the lawn mower blades should always be kept sharp to prevent bruised and torn grasses which develop unsightly brown spots. Your Cardinal Landscape lawn has been installed using bluegrass, fescue, and perennial ryegrass mixture.

Lawn Weed Control:

Weeds may appear in your new lawn. They come from seeds which lay dormant in the topsoil and / or native ground, or which are carried by wind or birds. These weeds can best be controlled by growing good, healthy grass. Grass which is properly watered, mowed, and well fertilized provides too much competition for weed plants to gain any stronghold. Should your lawn ever become damaged or have any bare spots, reseed immediately to prevent competitive weed growth from becoming established. If weeds do appear, consult your local professional for the proper methods and chemicals to control weeds before they have gained a stronghold in your lawn. Do not apply a weed control product to your new lawn until you have mowed it at least 3 times.
